Using the Media Suite

Basics

The Media Suite @ Dirac is available to all patrons of FSU Libraries. The room reservation system requires FSU CAS authentication, if you do not have FSU login credentials please speak to someone at the front desk about obtaining access to the Media Suite.

The Media Suite is designed for you to experiment and explore media production techniques and equipment in a supportive environment. To facilitate this for all patrons, please abide by the following set of rules.

Rules

  • Use of the Media Suite, and all media created with the Media Suite space and equipment, must abide by the FSU Student Code of Conduct.
  • For the safety of all patrons, do not block the windows in the front of the Media Suite.
  • After using the Media Suite, return all equipment and furniture to the way you found it upon entering the Media Suite and make sure the door is locked.
  • Please dispose of all trash in a proper receptacle and take all your belongings with you when you are done using the Media Suite. FSU Libraries is not responsible for personal belongings left in the Media Suite

Booking and Using the Room

Before you visit, book the Media Suite through the Library Room Reservation System. You are allowed to book the Media Suite for up to 4 hours per day, up to 2 weeks in advance. Existing reservations will always be given priority over walk-in users of the Media Suite. If no one has reserved the Media Suite after your reservation has expired, you may ask the front desk staff to extend your reservation. Reservations are highly recommend for peak times such as midterm and finals week.

When you reserved time arrives, simply stop by the front desk with your FSU ID card and pick up the key from a staff member. If you do not have a FSU ID card please speak to the front desk staff about gaining access to the Media Suite.

When you are finished, leave the room as you found it. Make sure the door is locked on your way out, or you could be held responsible for damages and/or theft that occur after you've left. If you accidentally lock the key inside the room, please notify a staff member at the front desk.

File Retention and Storage

The computer located with the Media Suite is currently configured to wipe all user data upon hitting a storage usage threshold. All files left on the Media Suite computer will be deleted at regular intervals. FSU Libraries is not liable for deletion of files or other information that is left on the computer after you complete your use of the Media Suite.

To make sure your files do not get deleted, we recommend uploading or offloading all user files at the end of your use of the Media Suite. The computer has both USB-3.0 and USB-C ports for portable hard drives and flash drives. Affiliates of FSU also have free access to cloud storage services, Microsoft OneDrive and Google Drive.

Getting Help

If you encounter problems while using the Media Suite, we are here to help. Please talk to a staff member at the front desk on the main floor of Dirac Library if you have trouble accessing the Media Suite or find equipment unusable. They can provide basic troubleshooting support or submit a ticket to get technical issues corrected. While FSU Libraries staff will try to resolve your issue as quickly as possible, more complex issues may take extended periods of time to fix. We thank you for your patience.

For more in-depth questions or issues with the Media Suite equipment, or general questions about media production software and techniques please reach out to GEOSET at FSU Libraries. We will respond to your inquiry within 1-2 business days.
